Understanding heat pump dryers 

Why the Temperature Is Low

Heat pump dryers use a different, more energy-efficient technology than traditional condenser or vented dryers. 

• Slower Heating: They use a heat exchanger to warm the air instead of a conventional, high-heat electric element. This process takes longer to reach the optimal drying temperature.

• Gentle Drying: The maximum temperature reached is significantly lower (around 50°C) compared to a conventional dryer which can reach 70-80°C. This lower heat is gentler on clothes and helps prevent shrinking.

• Warm-up Period: It can take up to 30 minutes or more for the drum to feel properly warm inside as the system focuses its initial energy on evaporating the moisture from the clothes and building up pressure in the heating system. 

Key Considerations

• Drying Times: Because they use lower temperatures, heat pump dryers take longer to dry clothes, often extending cycle times by 15 minutes to an hour or more compared to traditional models.

• Opening the Door: Avoid opening the door mid-cycle to check on clothes, especially early in the process. Each time the door is opened, the heat pump system loses heat and pressure and has to "reset," which can add 20 to 30 minutes to the total drying time.
